CNN’s Chris Cuomo is just underwhelmed by royal love
The royal engagement between Prince Harry and Suits actress Meghan Markle made for exciting news for lots of people, including those who keep up with all developments out of Kensington Palace, as well as fans of Suits, who can now urge their friends to watch the unaccountably popular legal drama on the basis that it once starred a real-life princess.
Over at CNN New Day, host Alisyn Camerota was thrilled to learn that the 33-year-old English prince had found love—that is, until she saw the look on her co-host Chris Cuomo’s face. Camerota had already done one segment on the royal wedding, which is set for spring 2018, but she admitted that she was still feeling pretty psyched about a romance between two people she’s never met, because she is “truly happy… when people find each other and love prevails.”
Though Cuomo shrugged in response, he wasn’t disparaging the sentiment—it’s just that he’s never shared the fascination with the British royals. As he tells his co-host, the notion of royalty is “anathema to what our democracy is all about,” so the avid interest in these figureheads “has always boggled [his] mind a little bit.” He does think “any good news” should be celebrated in these trying times; he just doesn’t see any reason to be more excited about a royal wedding than a regular one. Pragmatism aside, Cuomo made sure to note (on air and Twitter) that he thinks Prince Harry makes great use of his platform.
Even so, don’t expect Cuomo to contribute to the breathless coverage of the nuptials next year.
