CNN's Twitter account argued with Donald Trump to promote its new ad campaign
Donald Trump’s hatred of CNN is pretty famous, to the extent that his administration is supposedly pressuring Time Warner to sell off CNN’s parent company Turner before it will approve its merger with AT&T, but the news organization usually ignores Trump’s “fake news” attacks and just sticks to its typical news duties. Yesterday, though, one of Trump’s tweets apparently irked CNN so much that it felt the need to respond to him with a little dig and a nod to its new ad campaign. (For anybody who is new to the world in 2017, yes, this is all totally normal now.)
Here’s what happened: Trump tweeted what was basically an ad for Fox News, saying that it is “MUCH more important in the United States than CNN” even though CNN is bigger internationally. Since Fox News is essentially pro-Trump propaganda and CNN isn’t, he believes that CNN doesn’t “represent” the country very well.
CNN responded for whatever reason, saying that it’s not the news organization’s job to represent the U.S. to the world. “That’s yours,” the tweet said. “Our job is to report the news.”
It’s all a little dumb, as most Trump-related things are, but at least it’s nice to see CNN stick up for itself.
