Colin Jost and Michael Che named co-head writers on SNL

Weekend Update stars Colin Jost and Michael Che just received a big behind-the-scenes promotion on the set of Saturday Night Live, with Variety reporting that the duo have now been named co-head writers on the long-running sketch series. The pair—who recently oversaw Update during a tumultuous (but satirically profitable) election year—will join previous head writers Kent Sublette and Bryan Tucker, who will also remain in the role.

This isn’t the first time Jost has landed this particular job; working alongside Seth Meyers and, later, Tucker, he served as one of the show’s head writers from 2012 to 2015. Che, meanwhile, originally joined the show as a writer, in 2013, before taking over the Weekend Update slot in 2014.

The two come into the roles as the show continues to work to monopolize on the depressingly humorous consequences of the Donald Trump presidency; the series pulled in nine Emmys (and 13 more nominations) last year, including one for Alec Baldwin as Trump himself.
