Connie Britton's on the line in the World Series trailer for Ryan Murphy's 9-1-1
Ryan Murphy’s latest TV project, 9-1-1 has been kicking around for a while now, steadily picking up a pretty hefty cast of TV talent—Angela Bassett, Connie Britton, Peter Krause—to tell its stories of harried first responders and the beatific, Mrs. Coach-esque voice directing them on their calls. World Series audiences got their first taste of Britton’s helpful tones earlier tonight, when Fox showed off the first trailer for the series during tonight’s Game 3.
From the looks of it—and despite all the giant snakes—the series is looking to be a more traditional TV experience than the sort or daring, sometimes genius, sometimes deeply irritating provocations Murphy frequently produces for FX. There’s a lot more procedural DNA in here, for one thing, and a lot fewer glimpses of the sorts of over-the-top, “What the fuck?” moments that usually dot Murphy’s shows. Still, it’s a damn good cast, hopefully one that won’t be squandered when 9-1-1 arrived on TV next year.
