Cosmos
When it was announced that Seth MacFarlane would be updating Carl Sagan’s insanely popular 1980 series Cosmos for Fox, naysayers immediately assumed that the redux would feature wackily voiced babies cracking wise about how Earth came (ha ha, “came”) to be. Now that the trailer for the Neil deGrasse Tyson-hosted project has been released, fans of space and time can rest a little easier, as that doesn’t really appear to be the case. The three-and-a-half minute clip premiered last week at Comic-Con, and begins with Sagan’s narration from the original series before quickly flipping over into Tyson’s monologue. All that chatter is accompanied by a mix of computer-generated images and staggeringly beautiful photography of waving grain, planetary rings, and all sorts of other neat Earth stuff. The pictures are beautiful even on a computer screen, so they should be even more lovely on an actual TV when Cosmos starts airing on Fox next spring.
