David Alan Grier to star in Cool Kids pilot from the It's Always Sunny gang

Back in September, we reported that Charlie Day, Rob McElhenney, and Glenn Howerton from It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia were developing a pilot for Fox called The Cool Kids. As we noted at the time, the pilot is set in a retirement home and centers on a group of popular residents whose rule over the facility begins to crumble thanks to the arrival of a “female rebel” who is cooler than they are. Now, Deadline has revealed the core cast of The Cool Kids, so now we know who will be playing these kings of the retirement community.

The three man friends will be played by David Alan Grier, Martin Mull, and Leslie Jordan, with Vicki Lawrence playing the new woman who shakes things up. Grier’s character sounds like the leader, with Deadline saying he’s a “mischievous schemer.” Jordan is playing a “cautious hypochondriac with a weird streak,” and Mull will be playing a medium guy who apparently just fits in between the other two and doesn’t have any other exciting characteristics. Lawrence’s character, meanwhile, is “brash” and “hotheaded,” and she sees the eponymous Cool Kids as “a trio of cheesepuffs that she can easily herd, corral, and buffalo”—three words that mean effectively the same thing.
