R.I.P. David Gail, Beverly Hills, 90210 and Port Charles star
David Gail, who played Shannen Doherty's fiancé on Beverly Hills, 90210, died at age 58
David Gail, the actor best known for roles on Beverly Hills, 90210 and the soap opera Port Charles, has died, according to a social media post from his sister. No cause of death has been shared publicly. He was 58 years old.
“There’s barely been even a day in my life when you were not with me by my side always my wingman always my best friend ready to face anything and anyone [with] me,” Gail’s sister Katie Colmenares wrote in an Instagram post. “[The] bears will never be the same but I will hold you so tight every day in my heart you gorgeous loving amazing fierce human being missing you every second of every day forever there will never be another.”
Gail began his career in the early 1990s appearing in series like Growing Pains, Doogie Howser, M.D., and Murder She Wrote. His breakout role was a recurring guest spot on Beverly Hills, 90210, in which he played Stuart, the wayward fiancé of Shannen Doherty’s character Brenda Walsh. From there, Gail had a series regular role on the show Robin’s Hoods and starred in the short lived primetime drama Savannah.
Gail’s most prominent role came on the General Hospital spinoff Port Charles, where he replaced Michael Dietz as Dr. Joe Scanlon. He appeared on over 200 episodes of the show. He worked onscreen infrequently throughout the 2000s, with minor roles in the Bradley Cooper romantic comedy Bending All The Rules and Perfect Opposites starring Piper Perabo.
The Beverly Hills, 90210 Show podcast also paid tribute to Gail on their Instagram page, posting some highlights from his time on the podcast, where he fondly remembered his time on the landmark teen drama. He expressed his gratitude to the writers for creating the part, remembering the experience of delivering Stuart’s romantic lines as “cathartic.”
