David Letterman is finally coming back to guest on Stephen Colbert's Late Show
More than 8 years after departing The Ed Sullivan Theater, Dave Letterman is coming back to chat with Stephen Colbert
In the eight years since he stepped down from hosting Late Show With David Letterman on CBS, David Letterman has appeared on a ton of talk shows, lending his increasingly wizard-bearded visage to The Drew Barrymore Show, The View, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Late Night With Seth Meyers, and even the final episode of The Late Late Show With James Corden. But there’s one couch he’s never darkened in all that time: That of his old stomping grounds at the Ed Sullivan Theater, now the home of Stephen Colbert’s own version of the Late Show.
But, no more: Deadline reports that Letterman will be returning to that famous stage next week, when he serves as a guest on the show on Monday, November 20. Colbert broke the news earlier today, to audible sounds of celebration from his audience. It’s not clear yet what Letterman is coming on to talk about—but given that it’s been about a year since he last released a new episode of his Netflix series My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, we could certainly hazard a guess.
Colbert and Letterman last shared a stage at the theater back in 2015, after the former Comedy Central star had been tapped to serve as Letterman’s replacement on CBS’s late night throne, and Letterman welcomed him into his new house. Since then, Letterman has mostly been focused on his interview program, where he’s sat down with some of the biggest names on the planet, with Barack Obama, George Clooney, Kim Kardashian, and more all subjecting themselves to Letterman’s very particular interview stylings. Now, he’ll face Colbert’s own gentle, TV-friendly interrogations, as the two men sit down and talk to each other publicly for the first time in several years on Monday night.
