Nightbitch. Say it loud, and there’s music playing. Say it soft, and it’s just like praying. And now, after years of development, the movie with the greatest title in the history of movies is finally set to be the greatest movie title to actually appear on theatrical marquees, as Disney revealed that it’s put Amy Adams’ Nightbitch on its 2025 film release calendar.

There is, of course, more to Nightbitch than just the sheer sonic pleasure of whispering its name to yourself—Nightbitch! Try it!—including the fact that it’s Adams’ first major film role in a couple of years, having vanished from the limelight for a bit in the aftermath of The Woman In The Window, Dear Even Hansen, and 2022's Disenchanted. Also, the intriguing nature of the film’s premise goes well beyond its name: Based on the 2021 novel by Rachel Yoder, the story is about a young mother who may or may not turn into a dog when the sun goes down, channeling the pains and tensions of maternal expectations into something that’s been described as blending comedy and horror.

The film is a joint production between Annapurna and Searchlight Pictures, the latter allowing us, through the transitive property of corporate ownership, to refer to it as “Disney’s Nightbitch.” Marielle Heller, who directed 2019's “Tom Hanks as Mr. Roger” film A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood, has been set to direct ever since the movie was formally announced back in 2022. Originally, the film was slated to premiere on Hulu, not in theaters, but the majority of Hollywood has gotten kind of leery of direct-to-streaming movies of late—possibly explaining why Nightbitch will now arrive in theaters later this year, on December 6. And we don’t know about you all, but for us, the prospect of having a traditional Nightbitch Christmas, for once, will be all we need to get us through those colder months.
