Donald Glover's Lando gets the Childish Gambino-style theme song he deserves

If all you saw was the reaction on Twitter yesterday, you would think Disney just released the trailer for a new movie called Young Lando And His Amazing Fur Coat. In reality, they released the first trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story, in which Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian completely steals the show despite never saying a single line of dialogue. But the Lando hype is about to get a whole lot realer thanks to this incredible new theme song that is hard to believe isn’t actually performed by Childish Gambino.

This pitch-perfect recreation of a Camp-era Gambino track comes from comedian and writer Demi Adejuyigbe, who has previously released some Oscar-worthy Will Smith credits raps and most recently compiled a playlist of David Byrne songs that spells out the plot to Mother!. Clearly, Adejuyigbe is on some sort of mission to make everyone else feel bad about their lackluster creative output, and this latest creation is his crowning achievement.

In addition to the ear-wormy hook, the song has all the hallmarks of Donald Glover’s cadence and writing style. There’s a plethora of idiosyncratic pop culture references to movies like Brian’s Song, Monsters Inc. and the Netflix original series American Vandal. Being that it’s a Lando rap, there are tons of Star Wars references including the fantastic line, “Got a rap sheet longer than Jabba’s small intestine.” And, it wouldn’t be a Childish Gambino-style song if he didn’t mention his preference for Asian girls at least twice.

We can only hope Disney gets wind of this before Solo hits theaters in May. Because if this doesn’t play over the credits, what’s the point of even releasing the movie?
