Drake lays out “God’s Plan” on 2 new tracks
While you were getting ready for the SAG Awards, Drake put out a new EP over the weekend. Scary Hours is made up of two tracks, “God’s Plan” and “Diplomatic Immunity,” which find the More Life rapper ruminating on the usual themes—fame, fear, Champagne—over beats from frequent collaborators Cardo, Boi-1da, and Yex.
“God’s Plan” is a synth-heavy, bouncy production that can’t quite counteract leaden lyrics like “Yes, I see the things that they wishin’ on me” and “I feel good, sometimes I don’t.” You can listen to Drake confessing to his impostor syndrome here:
Clearly, no one is as aware of their detractors as Drake, who tries to rub their noses in his lifestyle on “Diplomatic Immunity.” The chorus-less track is slower overall, but at least Drake seems to be having fun.
Some listeners got an early glimpse at “God’s Plan” late last year, when the track was partially leaked.
