Emily in Paris will also be Emily in Rome in season four
Surprise, surprise: the season will be split into two parts, premiering August 15 and September 12
Netflix announced the premiere date for Emily In Paris season four today, and—who woulda thunk!—it’s actually two premiere dates. While two for the price of one is usually a great deal, this is kind of worst-case scenario. Netflix keeps splitting its seasons into two—and sometimes even three—parts, and we’re incredibly sick of it. It ruins the flow of the series and interrupts the binge method the streamer worked so hard to foist on all of us a decade ago. At this point, why not just go back to the Old Ways and release episodes weekly? It’s what everyone actually wants. You could be a hero, Netflix!
Anyway. Part one of Emily In Paris season four will hit the streamer on August 15, with the back half arriving almost a month later, on September 12. In the most generous explanation for this decision, maybe the show needed to take some time off air to make an intra-continental rail trip that Emily embarks on seem more realistic, timing-wise. Those just don’t happen in the 24-hour period it would probably take a really dedicated viewer to binge a whole season of this.
Okay, we don’t know if Emily will be taking the train across Europe (this writer has been playing a lot of Ticket To Ride recently), but she will definitely be traveling away from her new Paris home. “Emily finds herself with a busy travel schedule in Season 4 of Emily in Paris. From the French Alps to the piazzas of Rome, viewers will vicariously experience amazing new locations through Emily’s eyes,” show creator Darren Star said in a statement (via Tudum). “Expect new characters, a lot more drama, romance, and a whole new language to try and master.”
Maybe the Duolingo bird will be one of those new characters. Here’s the full synopsis for the season:
After the dramatic events of Camille and Gabriel’s misbegotten wedding, Emily is reeling: She has strong feelings for two men, but now Gabriel’s expecting a baby with his ex, and Alfie’s worst fears about her and Gabriel have been confirmed. At work, Sylvie is forced to confront a thorny dilemma from her past for the sake of her marriage, and the Agence Grateau team navigates personnel shakeups. Mindy and the band prepare for Eurovision, but when funds run dry, they’re forced to get thrifty. Emily and Gabriel’s chemistry is undeniable as they work together towards a Michelin star, but two big secrets threaten to undo everything they’ve dreamed of.
