Escape Plan
Here’s the first look at Mikael Håfström’s Escape Plan, starring Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger—a film that used be called The Tomb, until paranoid studio executives began to fear that some smartass blogger might find a way to draw a parallel places where you can see the remains of once-powerful men. Finally freed from any danger of ridicule, the film finds Stallone playing a brilliant security expert who’s thrown into a top-secret prison he can only break out of by combining wits with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Also, 50 Cent co-stars as a computer expert, a role he fully inhabits by putting on glasses.
Anyway, while Vincent D’Onofrio, Amy Ryan, and Jim Caveziel orbit the perimeter in roles of varying sympathy to and responsibility for Stallone’s plight, the crux of the film lies within the blossoming relationship between Stallone and Schwarzenegger, who bond over their shared distaste for oppression and weakling vegetarians. Together they forge the sort of friendship one can only find when you escape the prison within your heart, as well as actual prison.
