Even James Gunn is sick of nerds fighting about Batman V Superman
Fighting over superheroes fighting onscreen has become a pastime for even more casual fans, but James Gunn thinks we’re all wasting our breath/140 characters raging about the DC films in comparison to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 1 and 2 director shared a thread about just how fruitless this endeavor is, zeroing in on that most disputed of cape-flying tentpole pics, Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice.
On the one hand, we could all spend the time arguing until we’re Yondu in the face, but it’s not as potentially effective an exercise as lambasting a president who regularly and casually threatens war while on the potty.
And seriously, what do you care what anyone else thinks about the listless and dour rock-’em-sock-’em action of Dawn Of Justice, or to keep things fair, the increasingly unwieldy ensemble of The Avengers movies?
Gunn, who dialed up the whole “chosen family” aspect of Guardians in the sequel, encourages fans of both superhero movie universes to embrace their common bond instead of criticizing or justifying the decision to turn having a mother named Martha into a kind of superpower.
Proving he knows his audience, Gunn acknowledges that they’ll probably continue to pit gray palettes against psychedelic spectacles. In which case, stop tagging him.
