Fast And Furious 9 to dramatically crash through theaters in 2020
It looks like the next installment in the Fast And Furious series needs some more tinkering, as Universal has bumped it back from a tentative release date of April 19, 2019 to April 10, 2020. Even though it’s a year later, that will once again put the movie at the Easter weekend, where the series generally makes a ton of money. This all comes from Deadline, which notes that Furious 7 and Fate Of The Furious hold the second and third-place records for all-time Easter weekend box office openings—losing only to Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. In theory, that means Furious 9 or 9 Of The Furious or whatever should be another huge payday for Universal.
With the release date nailed down (or at least tentatively nailed down), the studio can now start focusing on making the actual movie. At this point, Furious 9 doesn’t have a director, and beyond central stars Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez, it’s unclear who might even appear in it—including Dwayne Johnson, who still might be getting his own spin-off with Jason Statham. One thing we do know, however, is that the movie probably won’t be going to space, even though that should absolutely happen at some point.
Meanwhile, if Furious fans just can’t wait until 2020 to see more cars doing ridiculous stuff, Vin Diesel’s Fast And Furious live show might be coming to your town at some point in the future.
