Fever Ray returns with a new song and a striking, NSFW music video
Way back in 2009, The Knife’s Karin Dreijer followed the group’s stunning Silent Shout with an equally acclaimed solo album under the moniker Fever Ray. In the time since, she’s dabbled in soundtrack work and reconvened with her brother to release The Knife’s allegedly final album, Shaking The Habitual, but today, after a few freaky teaser videos, Dreijer has shared a brand new Fever Ray track.
Titled “To The Moon And Back,” it’s way lighter than anything on her first album, landing closer to the chirping synth-pop of The Knife’s Deep Cuts era than her self-titled debut’s dark, frigid sound. Be warned, though, the song and its accompanying music video are definitely not safe for work, as Dreijer and director Martin Falck turn the kink theme running through those teasers into a striking, neon-filled sci-fi short. Plans for a future Fever Ray album have yet to be announced, but given the video’s cliffhanger of an ending, it looks like we won’t have to wait another eight years to hear more.
