Fox grants a second season to The Gifted
It’s the Gifted that keeps on Gifteding: Fox announced today at the Television Critics Association’s annual winter press tour that it’ll be granting a second season to its Marvel mutant-based drama series, The Gifted. The show—which stars Stephen Moyer and Amy Acker as parents trying to keep their kids safe after their mutant powers begin to manifest—has drawn restrained praise from critics for capturing the classic X-Men comic book feel of a world in which mutants are legitimately hated and feared, and also for clearing the admittedly low bar of being significantly better than Marvel’s other new offering this fall, Inhumans.
The show’s second season will hopefully capitalize on all that early world-building to push itself past the initial thrill of seeing beloved second-tier characters like Blink and Polaris doing their thing on TV. (Also, they’ll hopefully change up their episode naming conventions, because “outfoX” and “X-roads” are really scraping the bottom of the “words that have an x in them” barrel.)
