Fox is making more "secret" Marvel movies, including Silver Surfer with Brian K. Vaughn

With Disney’s massive $52.4 billion buyout of 21st Century Fox’s movie and TV studios on the horizon, it’s just a matter of time before Fox is no longer able to control its own private little Marvel movie universe with the X-Men and Fantastic Four rights. Apparently, it’s using this time to start ramping up development of as many comic book movies as possible, including Noah Hawley’s Doctor Doom movie and the secret X-Men spin-off from Brian Michael Bendis and Tim Miller that will probably be about Kitty Pryde. That’s just the start of it, though, with The Hollywood Reporter saying that Fox has “several other ‘secret’ projects” in the works, with one executive saying that the studio is “going 100 miles per hour.”

Apparently, one of these projects is a stand-alone movie about the Silver Surfer, Marvel’s shiniest space hippie. THR say the project is being written by Brian K. Vaughn, the comic book writer best known for Saga and Runaways. We don’t know any other details about it, as it’s still a “secret” (shh!), but a Silver Surfer movie could be our best shot at seeing something more akin to the classic version of Galactus—Silver Surfer’s boss, for lack of a better term—in a movie.

This is all in addition to the upcoming New Mutants, Dark Phoenix, X-Force, and the Gambit movie, if that ever gets made, as well as all of the movies that Marvel Studios itself is making and Sony’s future Spider-Man spin-offs. It’s a good thing everyone in the world is required by law to like Marvel movies, or else this would be kind of horrifying.
