Frank Ocean is teasing us with new music again
It’s been a year since Frank Ocean released his last two albums, the contract-defying double-act Endless and Blonde. Since then, Ocean has been enigmatic as ever about his future musical direction, releasing a handful of singles, and even giving a rare live performance at this year’s FYF. Now, he’s teasing that a new album might be on the way, going so far as to suggest that thing might even be done, and that he’s just sitting on it for the moment.
This is per Pitchfork, which notes that Ocean recently hopped on Tumblr, his social media platform of choice, to cryptically write, “‘Well I made the album before 30. I just ain’t put that bitch out!’—Quotes from an interview I haven’t given haha.” Ocean, who turned 30 last month, was presumably referring to a statement he made back in 2012 about making “5 albums before 30.”
It’s not clear if Ocean’s comment was just a joke, a preemptive defense against people asking him about his past statement, or if it’s an indication that he really does have another set of songs already locked up in the vault. Not for nothing, but he’s released four songs this year so far; the most recent, “Lens,” arrived back in April via Ocean’s “Blonded Radio” show.
