Fred Armisen to star in a Spanish-language pilot for HBO

According to Variety, Fred Armisen has sold a Spanish-language pilot to HBO that he’ll write, executive produce, and star in. The project is a half-hour comedy called Mexico City: Only Good Things Happen, and it’s reportedly about a group of friends in a “dreamy version” of Mexico City who are “obsessed with horror films and monster makeup.” Lorne Michaels will produce (because he controls the lives of all former Saturday Night Live cast members), with Ana Fabrega and Julio Torres joining Armisen as fellow writers, executive producers, and stars. Casting is just now getting underway in Mexico, so the pilot is still probably a ways off from being filmed. From there, it’ll actually have to get picked up and go to series before we can see this Spanish-language show about people who love scary monsters.
