George R.R. Martin's psychic space show gets the green light at Syfy

According to Variety, Syfy has given an unsurprising series order to Nightflyers, a space drama based on a novella of the same name by Game Of Thrones mastermind George R.R. Martin. The show will be about “eight maverick scientists and a powerful telepath” who are traveling through space in a ship called The Nightflyer, and though they’re a “tight-knit crew,” they eventually start to lose trust in each other after “terrifying and violent events begin to take place.” (The story was previously adapted into a movie in 1987, if this all sounds familiar.)

Syfy also announced that the show will star Gretchen Mol, Eoin Macken, David Ajala, Sam Strike, Maya Eshet, Angus Sampson, and Jodie Turner-Smith. Martin will act as one of the producers, but Variety says he won’t be involved in the show “day-to-day” as he’s busy with some windy winter book he’s been dragging his feet on.
