Gillian Anderson reiterates she’s leaving The X-Files after season 11
The X-Files returns this week, and TV Insider got a bunch of inside info on season 11, including how Scully and Mulder’s son William will be brought back into the storytelling fold, as well as Gillian Anderson’s seemingly imminent departure from the show.
Anderson, who’s also a series regular on Starz’s American Gods, reminds the outlet that that she’s “said from the beginning this is it for me. I was a bit surprised by people’s [shocked] reaction to my announcement…because my understanding was that this was a single season.” TV Insider notes that the Emmy winner has hinted at her abbreviated time on the revival since production began, and as recently as last October.
The occasionally shaky 10th season ended with a biological threat to humanity, and Mulder at the brink of death. While tackling all that (and a UFO), The X-Files will also welcome back Monica Reyes (Annabeth Gish), one of the Lone Gunmen, and Mulder’s half-brother Jeffrey Spender (Chris Owens). Season 11 premieres Wednesday, January 3 on Fox.
