Given the option, TNT chooses "not to be" for its silly William Shakespeare series
Alas, poor Will, we hardly knew ye. Without specifying whether the tagline “Before he was Shakespeare he was…Will” had anything to do with no one wanting to watch the thing, TNT has canceled its low-rated historical drama based on the early life of the legendary playwright, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show averaged just 679,000 viewers and a 0.2 in the 18-49 demographic, which for comparison’s sake is fewer than half the number of viewers tuning in for a normal episode of Naked And Afraid. (Perhaps TNT should have called it Naked Will Shakespeare Is Afraid Of Low Ratings.) The series aired just one season, which saw the bard’s young life reimagined in an anachronistic punk rock-esque 16th century London—and yes, since you asked, it was created by a frequent Baz Luhrmann collaborator, what a coincidence. We commend you to your content, Will, and good e’en to your worships. Using those two phrases, incidentally, has now made this post as accurate a depiction of Shakespearean London as Will.
