All the 2024 Golden Globes winners and nominees
It's a big night for Oppenheimer, Poor Things, Succession, and Beef as the Golden Globes kicks off awards season with a bang
Oppenheimer kicked off its march to the Academy Awards in a big way. The film dominated the first major show of Hollywood’s 2024 awards season, the 81st edition of the Golden Globes, on Sunday night at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. Christopher Nolan’s epic biopic captured five Globes, including Best Picture and Best Director. Barbie, the other half of the combined summer box office and awards juggernaut known as Barbenheimer, also landed a big honor—but came up short twice in its head-t0-head face off against the Emma Stone-led Poor Things.
On the TV side, Succession closed out its run by hoarding most of the big hardware, as billionaire dynasties are wont to do. But Beef also showed up and showed out with multiple wins, with stars Ali Wong and Steven Yeun making history as the first actors of Asian descent to win their respective awards.
While the Golden Globes remain a magnet for drama and controversy, it’s also a show with a long history as a leading indicator of the major Oscar races. Odds are this year’s show, operating under new management this year after decades in the hands of the much-derided Hollywood Foreign Press Association, gave a big boost to several frontrunners. It also might have knocked a few big-name contenders off balance to start the season.
