Great job, Internet!: Channeling Geocities from beyond the grave
We sit in front of our computers most of the day, connected to our friends and co-workers by the series of pipes, strings, and nimbostratus zackets called the Internet. Many times per day, things flash before our eyes—videos, photos, songs, sites—that are funny or strange enough to warrant sharing with other people. We salute them with a hearty "Great job, Internet!"
If you've ever visited a website and thought, "I wish there were more garish colors and Sister Hazel MIDIs; the current experience is too pleasurable, I say," the Geocities-izer has arrived to answer your oddly specific prayers. Simply enter the URL for any site, and it'll spit back a version that, according to its scrolling marquee, "looks like it was made by a 13 year old in 1996." Yes, that's any site, including Google.com and porn sites from beyond your wildest dreams. I plugged in avclub.com, and got this gem: Gifs of the 7-Up Spot and the dancing baby; hit counters and ads for Netscape; Blues Traveler over the speakers; and Comic Sans, Comic Sans, Comic Sans. I smell another redesign coming on. (Hat tip to Gizmodo.)
