Greg Berlanti is rebooting Kung Fu as a female-led drama for Fox

Good news, Grasshoppers: classic martial arts/Western show Kung Fu might be coming back to TV, with Deadline reporting that superhero TV megaproducer Greg Berlanti is developing a new, female-led version of the David Carradine-starring series. Fox recently acquired the project in a heated bidding war, albeit one presumably laden with a lot of wise-sounding aphorisms amid all the actual financial action.

The new series will center on “Lucy Chang, a Buddhist monk and kung fu master who travels through 1950s America armed only with her spiritual training and her martial arts skills as she searches for the man who stole her child years before.” Still uncast, Lucy will presumably be the first Asian star the franchise has ever featured; Bruce Lee was reportedly up for the part of Kwai Chang Caine back in the 1970s, but lost out to Carradine.
