In Marvel’s time of need, Gwyneth Paltrow says Robert Downey Jr. could get her acting again
To the delight of Pepper Potts-heads around the world, Gwyneth Paltrow says that Robert Downey Jr. could get her acting again
Let’s be honest for a second, shall we? It’s been a tough year for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Once considered the standard-bearer of interconnected movie franchises, it is now in something of a bind. Its last few movies underperformed. The new big bad is facing numerous assault allegations. Deadpool 3 is still on the calendar. Dark times, indeed.
And just like that, a glimmer of hope. Or should we say, a glimmer of goop.
Following her performance in court as the wrongly accused perpetrator of a skiing accident, Gwyneth Paltrow hinted at a return to acting recently. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Paltrow admitted that it would be “very hard for me” to act right now “because of my job” as a purveyor of pseudoscience-tested vagina eggs and candles. But if one person could convince her to get back in front of the camera, it’s Robert Downey Jr., who “could probably always get me back.”
Now, that’s about as non-committal as possible. However, considering Marvel Studios appears so thirsty for the Golden Age Avengers to return that the latest Marvels trailer teases it, a Pepper Potts appearance can’t be out of the question. She must like making them (or, at least, not mind making them) because aside from The Politician and Mortdecai, Marvel movies are pretty much all she’s acted in for the last decade. But also, is there a person in the MCU that Robert Downey Jr. couldn’t convince to return?
We assume Downey’s Marvel days will never end, especially as the studio faces a financially damaging vibe shift in the culture. One day, Marvel will make the call and get Potts and Stark back together for another ride around the multiverse and everyone will make a lot of money off it. Paltrow might even remember being in the movie.
