Han shoots first in the long-awaited trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story

After replacement director Ron Howard spent months teasing the film on social media, Disney and Lucasfilm have finally dropped the first trailer for roguish spin-off movie Solo: A Star Wars Story. The official synopsis from back in January teased “daring escapades,” and we definitely get to see some of that from Alden Ehrenreich’s Han Solo and Donald Glover’s Lando Calrissian.

At a minute and a half, this trailer isn’t much longer than the Super Bowl spot, but it is full of new footage, including a glimpse at Thandie Newton’s character, lots of blasting and racing, and of course, a “family photo” scene in the Millennium Falcon. In a voice-over, Han lays out his résumé: hustling from the age of 10, followed by dismissal from the flight academy. That won’t stop him from becoming the best pilot in the galaxy, though. As forthcoming as Han is, it’s clear that there are some things he’s leaving out—secrets that Kira (Emilia Clarke), who we see riding shotgun in one of his early heists, hints at when running into Han years later. Han has the tiniest flash of doubt in this exchange, which just goes to show he’s got a long way to go before tossing out an “I know” in response to an admission of love.

In addition to Ehrenreich, Glover, and Clarke, Solo stars Woody Harrelson, Paul Bettany, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

Solo: A Star Wars Story will charm its way into theaters on May 25.
