Here's an exclusive look at the new Split Single video

We’re big fans of Split Single around here, and not just because chief architect Jason Narducy is both our fellow Chicagoan and the bassist in some of our favorite bands (including Superchunk and Bob Mould’s band). A lot of Narducy’s videos as Split Single have been a little bit silly—you may recall seeing “the sexiest elbows in rock” series—but for the new “Leave My Mind” (from last year’s Metal Frames), he’s a bit more contemplative. Below, some thoughts from Narducy on the song and video, plus new Split Single tour dates. Above, the video itself. Enjoy.

“Leave My Mind” is one of my favorites from Metal Frames, but I tend to make videos for songs that fit a comedic tone like we did with “Untry Love,” “Monolith,” and “Fragmented World”. This is a more serious, ambient song so I wanted to make something visually fitting its mood. The video was shot in Evanston (where I live). Photographer James Richards IV filmed the slow motion footage of me walking and then I recorded the other 90 percent of the video on my iPhone. It all came together once editor Sam O’Brien got his hands on it. I love how he layered the footage into something that matches the lyrics and sonic space.
