Hillary Clinton compares herself to Cersei Lannister, but not in a weird way

While on tour promoting her new book, What Happened, Hillary Clinton has been offering different theories to explain why she lost the presidential election, including “Bernie bros” and her decision to emphasize information over emotion. Also, she’s been opening up a bit about how it felt to somehow be the only presidential candidate that people hate more than the openly racist creep, and it turns out that her book features a very pop culture-friendly reference to what that experience was like. As reported by the New York Daily News, a passage in What Happened features Clinton commenting on the crowds at Trump rallies calling for her to be imprisoned, saying, “they shouted, ‘Guilty! Guilty!’ like the religious zealots in Game Of Thrones chanting, ‘Shame! Shame!’ while Cersei Lannister walked back to the Red Keep.”

It’s an accurate Game Of Thrones reference, which Clinton deserves some points for, but some people are probably thinking it’s a bit odd for Clinton to be comparing herself to a woman who is proudly in love with her own brother. However, a lot of the truly evil stuff Cersei did came after the big “shame” scene, so it’s not like Clinton is saying she has all that much in common with a character who killed a bunch of people in a big explosion. She’s just pointing out that she—like Cersei—had to endure thousands of people cheering about how much they hate her because a corrupt, old man told them it was the thing to do.
