Hollywood stars react to end of SAG-AFTRA strike with jubilation, lots of trailer links
Albert Brooks, Quinta Brunson, Kumail Nanjiani, and more react to the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike
With news breaking tonight that the AMPTP and SAG-AFTRA have finally reached a deal for a new contract—and that the SAG-AFTRA strike is officially set to end at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday morning—Hollywood is reacting to the the results of an historic 118-day fight between the studios and the union. Mostly with jubilation, as numerous actors expressed their joy at the ability to work on, and promote, their stuff again, as the Hollywood promotional and production machine begins to rev back to life.
In addition to SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher—who hopped on social media to celebrate “The Billion+ $ Deal!” that will now go before the union’s board for ratification—numerous celebs have taken to social media tonight to celebrate, even people who you might reasonably expect to be preoccupied by other things, like Alec Baldwin:
Or Albert Brooks, now freed to promote the new documentary about his life!
Or Kumail Nanjiani, reveling in the chance to show off a trailer, as all stars dream of:
Renee Rapp, meanwhile, actually jumped the gun a bit, but can you blame her? It’s trailer time!
Some stars, meanwhile, went ahead and simply celebrated without an accompanying video, including Jeffrey Wright, Ethan Embry, Dani Fernandez, Quinta Brunson, and more.
And while we might be poking a bit of fun at various stars’ pent-up promotional urges, it’s hard to deny the excitement that’s been expressed, as everybody involved is clearly feeling joyful at getting back to work after a multi-month absence. It remains to be seen what effects the strike will end up having on the industry—there were literally reports out today about the majority of scripted content getting officially bumped to 2024 due to strike-related delays—but for tonight, the mood seems to be genuine elation.
