How lucky we are to be alive right now: "Weird Al" Yankovic has released a Hamilton polka
“Weird Al” Yankovic and Lin-Manuel Miranda, both maestros in their different ways, have now merged with Yankovic’s Hamilton polka parody, filtering Miranda’s dynamic hit musical through the exuberantly goofy medium of Yankovic’s accordion. Though produced independently, “The Hamilton Polka” was released this morning under Miranda’s HamilDrops series, where he drops unreleased content from Hamilton. In “The Hamilton Polka,” Weird Al composes a medley of Hamilton songs, arranging them into the greatest-hits style tour de force he’s done with his polka series for years.
Tonight, Miranda and Yankovic will appear together on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. According to Yankoic’s Instagram account, they’ll be lip-syncing “The Hamilton Polka.” Oh, to be in the room where it happens.
Below, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon posted this video showing both Miranda and Jimmy Fallon’s reaction to hearing the song for the first time; Miranda’s joy is delightful to watch, while Fallon returns to his SNL roots by adding a completely unnecessary element to the video, distracting the viewer’s attention from Miranda’s (silent) reaction with his whoops and hollers.
