Jamie Foxx will tell everyone what happened to him, but only when he can do it “in a funny way”

It's been nearly a year since a medical emergency pulled Foxx from the public eye for months

Last April, Jamie Foxx was hospitalized for some kind of medical emergency, the details of which still haven’t been publicly disclosed. In December, he made his first public appearance since whatever had happened, explaining that he had “been through something” and that there was a time during his recovery when he was unable to walk. He also said that he “saw the tunnel” you see “when it’s almost over” and joked that it was “hot in that tunnel” so he wasn’t sure if he was “going to the right place.”

We still don’t really know what happened, not that it’s necessarily any of our business (outside of the fact that you have to tacitly agree to some loss of privacy when you choose to become a public figure), but Foxx brought it up once again at the African American Film Critics Association’s Special Achievement Awards event this weekend, teasing that he knows “everybody wants to know what happened” and that he’s going to tell everyone… but, he added, “I’ve gotta do it in my way.”

Foxx said that he’s going to “do it in a funny way” and that he’ll “be on the stage” and go “back to the stand-up sort of roots.” Variety’s write-up of the event makes it sound like Foxx was in a particularly jovial mood, reminding everyone else in the room to enjoy life and appreciate their opportunities to make art and to make people happy, with him joking that he’s so thankful for everything these days that his daughter told him to “chill out” after he started talking about how much he loved drinking water.

Though we’re no closer to finding out what happened to Jamie Foxx, that’s not the only story that’s been going around about him. Shortly after he returned to the public eye in December, Cameron Diaz went on a podcast to talk about how great Jamie Foxx is—a reaction to rumors from early last year about him being “crazy” and having a “major meltdown” on the set of their Netflix movie Back In Action. She said that he was actually “like the cheerleader for the entire crew” and was “just professional on every level.”
