Jennifer Lopez to donate $1 million to hurricane victims in Puerto Rico
According to Billboard, Jennifer Lopez has pledged to donate $1 million from her shows in Las Vegas to hurricane relief in Puerto Rico. Lopez announced the donation in a press conference with New York governor Andrew Cuomo, during which she also announced that she’s working with ex-husband Marc Anthony and Alex Rodriguez to rally a bunch of athletes and musical artists to join in, with the New York Yankees and Major League Baseball in particular pledging to help “in a major way.” Other sports people getting involved include Dallas Mavericks player J.J. Barea and Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, who have “two airplanes full of help and generators ready to fly to the island.”
As noted by Gizmodo, the back-to-back hits of Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria have slammed Puerto Rico, knocking out the country’s entire power grid and leaving “large stretches of road” impassible. Because of these issues and several others, many people are having trouble getting food and water.
