We’ve had our differences with Jimmy Fallon here at The A.V. Club. But while we may disagree over the proper handling of Donald Trump’s hair or whether a game of beer pong counts as a “joke,” we can all come together in agreement with The Tonight Show’s pledge to give $1 million towards Hurricane Harvey relief. On last night’s show, Fallon said, “Last week we saw the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey on the state of Texas. But in the face of this tragedy, we saw good. We saw communities banding together. We saw neighbors helping neighbors, strangers helping strangers, so many heroes,” before announcing the $1 million donation to Houston Texans player J.J. Watt’s flood relief fund and introducing Victoria White and Marquist Taylor, gospel singers who performed for evacuees at a Houston shelter.
So far, the fund has raised more than $21 million from celebrities, corporations, and ordinary people alike, with substantial donations from Drake ($200,000), the Tennessee Titans ($1 million), and Ellen DeGeneres and Walmart ($1 million), among others. That fund is still collecting donations here.
