John Mulaney goes to The Tonight Show, gets gently roasted by co-host Cardi B
John Mulaney’s hosting Saturday Night Live this week, a homecoming for a writer who spent almost five years on the program, and to promote this achievement he stopped by The Tonight Show for a few minutes of his characteristic self-effacement. He was aided in these efforts by Cardi B, who just released her excellent debut Invasion Of Privacy and joined Jimmy Fallon as the show’s first-ever co-host. (As she notes in the monologue, she’s also “the first late-night co-host who isn’t a white guy.”) For her first stab at the gig, she was a natural, letting the other two riff but occasionally tossing hand-grenade anecdotes and one-liners into the mix, like when she tells Mulaney flatly, “You look British,” later calling him a “Pet Shop Boy,” or when the two start comparing and contrasting their very different prom nights. As hers trails off into some limo-rental interlude she deems too profane for television, Mulaney curtly interjects, “You know, my nana drove me to my prom.”
You can watch the whole thing above, or watch her monologue with Fallon, featuring a supercut of Donald Trump rapping “Bodak Yellow,” a thing which somehow didn’t already exist.
