Justin Timberlake was arrested Monday night for driving while intoxicated, ABC News confirms. The arrest occurred in Sag Harbor, a village in the Hamptons located on Long Island, New York. People magazine reports that he was pulled over while attempting to drive to a friend’s house after having dinner in town. According to the outlet, the singer was still in police custody awaiting arraignment on Tuesday morning. “Nobody was hurt,” a source tells People.

Timberlake is currently on the well-reviewed “Forget Tomorrow” world tour, with concerts scheduled this weekend in Chicago and next week in New York. The tour is in support of his March 2024 album Everything I Thought It Was. It’s been an era marked by nostalgia as he reunited with producer Timbaland for the album and his boy band *NSYNC for a track on Trolls Band Together.

Meanwhile, Timberlake is coming out of an era of intense public scrutiny; his reputation suffered amid the re-evaluation of Britney Spears’ conservatorship and her memoir The Woman In Me. Spears wrote that Timberlake pressured her to have an abortion, cheated on her, and used a pretty ridiculous Blaccent, among other things. It was also recently the 20th anniversary of Nipplegate, when Janet Jackson’s breast was exposed during her performance with Timberlake at the Super Bowl halftime show. It’s another cultural event that has been re-evaluated, and not in his favor. Timberlake issued a general apology for the “times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem” in 2021.

The Grammy winner issued a separate apology in 2019 after having been photographed holding hands with Palmer co-star Alisha Wainwright. Timberlake apologized for putting his family “through such an embarrassing situation” (via Us Weekly) but denied that anything “happened” between himself and Wainwright. Timberlake wrote on Instagram that he “displayed a strong lapse of judgment,” adding, “I drank way too much that night and I regret my behavior. I should have known better. This is not the example I want to set for my son [Silas].”
