Kate Winslet to reunite with James Cameron for the Avatar sequels
James Cameron is seriously ramping up production of the Avatar sequels, with 21st Century Fox depositing a huge check in his Avatar checking account and a bunch of young people signing on for major roles, and now he has welcomed one of his old Titanic stars to the Avatar-verse. According to Deadline, Kate Winslet has signed on for “a starring role in the ongoing Avatar adventure,” which presumably means that she’s on board to appear in multiple movies beyond just Avatar 2. She’ll be playing someone named Ronal, which is probably the name of a Na’vi person and not a human person, but these movies do take place in the future. Maybe more women will be named after famous fast food clowns by then.
In a statement, Cameron talked about how long he’s been waiting to work with Winslet again:
Kate and I have been looking for something to do together for 20 years, since our collaboration on Titanic, which was one of the most rewarding of my career. I can’t wait to see her bring the character of Ronal to life.
