Kerry Washington developing Facebook drama series about kids in Chicago
When Facebook launched its video streaming platform Watch back in August, it explained that the goal was for Watch to eventually feature short-form videos from existing websites and TV networks alongside so-called “hero” shows that will be “television-quality.” The Humans Of New York documentary series leans closer to the latter side of things, but now Facebook has announced a new project that sounds exactly like what the “hero” show description was referring to.
According to Variety, this new show is an actual drama series called Five Points that counts legitimate celebrity Kerry Washington as one of its executive producers. Set on the the South Side of Chicago, the show is about five high school students with “five unique points of view” who go through some kind of “life-changing event” together and have to use their unique points of view to “understand the truth.” That’s all we know about the plot at this point, but Variety adds that CSI: Cyber’s Hayley Kiyoko and model Madison Pettis are the first two people attached to star.
Variety doesn’t say when Five Points will premiere, but Facebook is probably hoping to get stuff like this on the site quick in order to establish Watch as a reliable alternative to the bigger streaming services.
