10 men detail new allegations against Kevin Spacey in new docuseries
Spacey Unmasked premieres on the U.K.'s Channel 4 May 6 and 7
Kevin Spacey may be attempting to chart a sordid Hollywood comeback right now, but a new docuseries from the U.K.’s Channel 4 is hoping to remind people who he really is—like we could ever forget. Spacey Unmasked promises to take a “forensic look” at the disgraced actor’s rise in the industry and subsequent alleged sexual abuse, featuring testimony from 10 men who say he assaulted them while they were also hoping to make it in the business.
While the docuseries was announced last month, The Hollywood Reporter shared a more detailed look at its contents today ahead of its U.K. release later this week. None of the 10 men involved, all of whom are identified only by their first names, were involved in Spacey’s London sexual assault trial, which concluded in the actor being acquitted on all counts last July. Nine out of ten accusers have not spoken out about their abuse until now.
According to THR, the men’s stories span five decades—from Spacey’s teenage years, to his House Of Cards fame, to his time as artistic director of London’s Old Vic Theatre. “I felt like I was staring at a soulless monster,” one man, identified as Daniel, commented. Many of the men speak about being blinded by Spacey’s promises to help them in their careers. “If you don’t pay the toll in sexual favors, you’ll have a decent career, but you won’t see your name in lights,” one said. Other allegations include Spacey pushing his groin into the face of an Old Vic worker, masturbating next to an aspiring actor as they watched Saving Private Ryan in a public theater, and forcing himself onto an ex-marine at a party hosted by Bruce Willis.
After brushing off the docuseries in an odd statement last week, Spacey posted a lengthy note on Twitter/X yesterday accusing Channel 4 of not giving him enough time to respond to the new allegations. “Over the last week, I have repeatedly requested that @Channel4 afford me more than 7 days to respond to allegations made against me dating back 48 years and provide me with sufficient details to investigate these matters,” he wrote. “Channel 4 has refused on the basis that they feel that asking for a response in 7 days to new, anonymized and non-specific allegations is a “fair opportunity” for me to refute any allegations made against me.”
“Each time I have been given the time and a proper forum to defend myself, the allegations have failed under scrutiny and I have been exonerated,” he added, accusing the channel of being a “dying network.” In response, Channel 4 sent the following statement to THR: “Kevin Spacey has been given sufficient opportunity to respond.”
The documentary premieres May 6 and 7 in the U.K.; U.S. premiere dates for Max and Investigation Discovery will be announced next week.
