Kiernan Shipka is your new Sabrina The Teenage Witch
Netflix has decided to go for a big name for its upcoming Archie Comics drama project, Sabrina The Teenage Witch, with Variety reporting that Mad Men star Kiernan Shipka will be taking on the role of the spell-slinging teen. Shipka—who recently co-starred on Ryan Murphy’s Feud, and who triumphed in an increasingly important role over the years on Mad Men (while so many would-be Bobby Drapers dropped around her like flies)—has long been rumored as a likely fit for the part of youthful sorceress Sabrina Spellman.
Netflix—presumably inspired by the success of The CW’s similarly Archie-based Riverdale—announced that it was ordering the series for a two-season run late last year. The show will take as its inspiration the recent comic series Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina; in the words of Archie Comics CCO Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, “This is a darker, more macabre version of Sabrina, and we’re incredibly excited for people to see Kiernan make this iconic character her own.”
