Kumail shows off his X-Files prowess in an exclusive deleted scene from The Big Sick
We declared The Big Sick—starring Zoe Kazan and Kumail Nanjiani in a fictionalized version of Nanjiani’s real-life love story with his wife, writer Emily Gordon—one of our best movies of the year so far here at The A.V. Club. And now the Michael Showalter-directed romantic comedy is making its debut on DVD and Blu-ray so you can watch it while snuggled up on the couch with someone you love, whether or not they’re also your Uber driver.
As they often do, the Big Sick comes with special features for its home video release, like the deleted scene from the film we’re debuting exclusively below. In the clip, Kumail’s brother Naveed (Adeel Akhtar) decides to embarrass him with an X-Files trivia game while the family is visiting with Khadija (Vella Lovell), one of the many eligible young Pakistani women Kumail’s mom (Zenobia Shroff) keeps inviting over for dinner in hopes of arranging a match. And who could resist such encyclopedic knowledge of X-Files episode descriptions? (He’s right on the money, by the way.)
The Big Sick is out on DVD and Blu-ray today, September 19.
