Lena Dunham scores a new HBO series starring Jennifer Garner
It has been a few months short of a year since Girls ended on HBO, and now series masterminds Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner are getting ready to head back to the premium cable network with a new show. According to Deadline, Dunham and Konner are working on a new half-hour comedy show for HBO called Camping, with the plot focusing on an “obsessively organized and aggressively controlling” woman named Kathryn who tries to organize a big camping weekend for her husband Walt’s 45th birthday. Unfortunately, Kathryn’s “meek sister,” “holier-than-thou ex-best friend,” and a “free-spirited tagalong” also show up, turning the event into “a weekend of tested marriages and woman-on-woman crime.” (Again, this is billed as a half-hour comedy, not a harrowing HBO drama.)
Jennifer Garner is attached to star in Camping as the aggressively controlling wife, making this her first major TV role since Alias. The show is based on a British series of the same name, so look that up if you want to spoil the basic storyline, and the HBO version already has an eight-episode order.
