Lena Waithe heads to the South Side in this trailer for her Showtime drama The Chi

A little over a month after her history-making Outstanding Writing For A Comedy Series win at the Emmys, Master Of None writer and co-star Lena Waithe has created a new Showtime drama series called The Chi. This trailer for the show features a lot of quick shots of various Chicagoans in different stages of life looking concerned about stuff, dancing, and doing slow-motion leaps, and the YouTube description says The Chi is “a powerful coming-of-age drama about an interconnected group of working-class African-Americans on Chicago’s volatile South Side.” It also says the show will explore “the humanity behind the headlines.”

The Chi will premiere on Showtime on January 7.
