Lena Waithe joins season 2 of Dear White People

Lena Waithe’s TV career is continuing to take off after her history-making win at the Emmys earlier this year for Master Of None, with her Showtime series The Chi set to premiere on January 7 and Entertainment Weekly now reporting that she’ll also have a recurring role in season two of Netflix’s Dear White People. Waithe, who was a producer on Justin Simien’s original 2014 Dear White People film, will play a “braggadocious MC” named P Ninny who stars on a “ridiculous Love & Hip-Hop-like reality series called Trap-House Tricks.”

Simien says the character is like Lena Waithe “if Lena was a hot mess,” with Waithe herself saying that she likes getting to play someone who is “really silly and crazy” and gets to “say crazy stuff.” It’ll all most likely fit pretty well in the heightened reality of Dear White People’s in-universe TV shows, which included a Scandal parody called Defamation in the first season.
