Detroit Love Lives Bleeding screening ends in arrest for... well...

An audience member at Kristen Stewart's recent body-building film should have probably just stayed home

Detroit Love Lives Bleeding screening ends in arrest for... well...

Look, we’re all for preserving the theatrical experience here at The A.V. Club. In an era where streaming threatens theaters every day, every ticket bought to see a film—especially one from an independent studio and a buzzy, relatively new director—is a major win. But the fact that it’s now easier than ever to watch major releases in your living room doesn’t mean that you should treat movie theaters like your living room! We’re assuming none of our readers need this reminder, but some people out there certainly do. Specifically, one man from Detroit who was just arrested for allegedly masturbating at a screening of Kristen Stewart’s latest film, Love Lies Bleeding. My dude… come on.

This, er, information comes via Twitter/X user @UglyXKorean (confirmed by Variety), who posted a very NSFW photo of a man passed out at the screening with his penis exposed on Thursday night. “Went to go see Love Lies Bleeding and this drunk guy jacked himself off to sleep,” he captioned the photo, which showed the man next to a table filled with an opened package of cigarettes, a vape, and one opened and one unopened bottle of Fireball whiskey. My dude… come on!

In a later photo, @UglyXKorean also showed police walking through the lobby of the theater before they arrested the man, according to a reply. (“He was sitting in the back of the car when I left.”) In a statement to Variety, the theater’s manager confirmed that there would be an ongoing investigation into the incident.

While we’re all adults and it feels like we really shouldn’t have to say this as many times as we do, no one seems to be getting it so we’ll just go ahead and say it one more time: don’t be a dick in communal spaces! It’s that simple! While this is obviously an extreme example, with the recent trend of terrible concert antics and increased bad behavior in general, it honestly isn’t as shocking as it should be. Hopefully, those interrupted theater-goers will get another chance to see Rose Glass’ excellent film. Despite what we said at the top of this article, if anyone should get to see a film in the unmediated comfort of their own home, it’s them.
