Marilyn Manson on the stage accident that broke his leg
A recuperating Marilyn Manson spoke to Yahoo! News recently about the onstage prop mishap that resulted in a broken leg. The Antichrist Superstar artist described the September 30 accident in great detail: Apparently, he wasn’t trying to climb the giant prop guns that were on stage, but rather, trying to keep them from falling over. “I wasn’t trying to climb it,” he explained to Yahoo!. “It started to fall and I tried to push back and I didn’t get out the way in time. I’m not sure what I hit my head on, but it did fall onto my leg and break the fibula in two places.”
The pain of having his leg shattered on stage was “excruciating,” and Manson only recently watched footage of the accident. “I can see how it could look terrifying,” Manson said. “It was terrifying for me, because the truss was not secured properly.” Looking back at the size of the prop, Manson says “it was like wrestling a giant iron monster.” The singer had injured his ankle just the day before (on September 29), after which he joked that maybe God was trying to stop him from playing. But whether or not there was any divine intervention, Manson’s sick of convalescing on his couch, telling Yahoo! “[The tour] got cut off right as I was about to put it into second gear. But I’ll be back there really shortly and it’s going to be as exciting as it was starting out.”
