The story of Cassie Bowden, hard-partying flight attendant turned murder suspect turned CIA asset, has now come to an official close, turns out, as Deadline reports that Max has just pulled the plug on its Kaley Cuoco murder dramedy The Flight Attendant. The show’s second-season finale, which aired way back in May of 2022, will now serve as its series finale, too.

In fact, the biggest surprise today might just be that the formal cancellation notice took this long at all: Cuoco made comments back when the second season aired suggesting that the “plane had landed,” otherwise suggesting she wouldn’t be coming back for a third season. It’s not at all clear why all involved took nearly two years after the fact to formally axe the series.

But axe it has, with Kuoco (who also produced the show, adapted from the novel by Chris Bohjalian) issuing a statement today thanking her fans and collaborators:

What started out as an attention-grabbing book cover quickly evolved into an extraordinary flight of a lifetime. I always envisioned TFA as a limited series and thanks to an incredible creative team, we were able to deliver two thrilling seasons. Personally, playing Cassie has been a dream come true and I am so grateful for everyone who played a part in bringing this extremely original series to life.

Showrunner Steve Yockey chimed in with similar thoughts, calling the series “a true passion project.”

In addition to Cuoco, the series starred Zosia Mamet, Griffin Matthews, and Rosie Perez in both seasons, with Deniz Akdeniz, Mo McRae, Callie Hernandez, J.J. Soria, and Cheryl Hines coming on in the second season, which saw Cuoco’s alcoholic flight attendant Cassie mix in a little light moonlighting with the CIA with her efforts to achieve sobriety—and getting sucked right back into yet another murder that seemed pointed straight at her.
