Maze Runner becomes Mad Max in the trailer for The Death Cure

The Maze Runner movies have always seemed like a weirder, more complex dystopian universe than something like The Hunger Games, with the first installment’s story about amnesiac teens trapped in some kind of prison maze leading into some crazy Resident Evil shit about a virus and a mysterious organization. Also, Giancarlo Esposito, Aidan Gillen, and Patricia Clarkson were all there, which seems surprising. Luckily, it doesn’t look like you need to know about any of that to get this trailer for The Death Cure, the final film in the Maze Runner trilogy, as it seems to be transitioning the series into a more-easily graspable, YA-friendly take on Mad Max—or maybe a post-apocalyptic Fast And Furious. Either way, there’s a high-speed heist, gunfights, and (once again) surprising appearances from some recognizable adults.

Maze Runner: The Death Cure will be in theaters on January 26.
