Truly, every single thing that Universal releases about Dev Patel’s Monkey Man makes it look like a more and more joyous miracle that Jordan Peele came along and saved the film from Netflix—where it would’ve inevitably fallen into obscurity alongside forgettable and disposable action flicks like Extraction and The Gray Man and a third example that we can’t pull because Netflix movies just appear and disappear like wisps of smoke. The first trailer was killer, introducing us to the world that Patel had built for his directorial debut where a man takes vengeance on the corrupt rich people terrorizing his home, and then the movie got a lot of positive buzz out of SXSW earlier this month.

Now Monkey Man is back with a whole new trailer, and god damn, can it just be April already? Because this thing just looks like such a blast. The action looks intense, Patel looks awesome, and it’s just a really good trailer with its own little narrative, some fun bits where Patel interacts with the text appearing onscreen, and even a great song. Do kids today know “In The Air Tonight”? They should. Also, it’s a song about vengeance!

Monkey Man | Official Trailer 2

Monkey Man will be in theaters (thank you, Jordan Peele) on April 5, and it will hopefully kick off a Dev Patelaissance where he gets to do more stuff. He’s been around for a long time, of course, but is anyone going to object to seeing more of Dev Patel? Anyone other than the bad guys in Monkey Man, at least, who keep getting tossed into ovens and microwaves with bottles smashed over their heads, and then they get drop-kicked, and then Patel does one of those super-punches where you jump in the air first (do those really work?).
